The Cumberland Valley Children’s Advocacy Center is a traditional CAC that emphasizes a child-friendly approach for multi-agencies to work together providing core services on site to victims of child abuse and their non-offending caregivers.  The goal of the center will be to lessen the trauma experienced by a child victim of abuse as the case moves through the criminal justice system by bringing the professional to the child in one home like setting. The center serves the Cumberland Valley region of Kentucky that is demographically comprised of Bell, Clay, Knox, Harlan, Laurel, Jackson, Rockcastle and Whitley counties located in southeastern Kentucky. The center’s faculty is composed of an Executive Director that provides administrative duties. A Family Advocate that works with the families by coordinating needed services, educating the families about judicial system procedures and helps facilitate the Kids in Court Program with local county and commonwealth attorney’s offices throughout the region.  The Therapist provides crisis counseling and play therapy techniques to the child victim. A Forensic Interviewer who conducts forensic interviews onsite with the child victim. The center also hosts interviews for agencies who would like to conduct their own interview with the child victim. A Physician that is specialized in performing child sex abuse exams and a Medical Coordinator/RN that assists the physician with medical exams and coordinates medical services.
