Family and Children First, Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is a full service CAC that is part of a larger organization, Family and Children First, Inc. The organization is certified by the Counsel of Accreditation and the CAC is certified by the National Children’s Alliance and a full member of the Kentucky Association of Children’s Advocacy Centers.

Our child-friendly facility is located in downtown Louisville to better serve our most populated area, but is easily accessed by all counties in our designated region, which includes Jefferson, Oldham, Trimble, Bullitt, Henry, Shelby and Spencer.  The facility is located near several major interstates which provide access to all our clients.

The facility reflects the vast social, cultural and ethnic makeup of the community served.  The CAC is physically accessible to children and families with special needs.

The CAC staff includes an Executive Director, a full-time Medical Director, three part-time physicians, a full-time Medical Assistant, Forensic Interviewer, Program Supervisor, two therapists, Intake Coordinator, Multidisciplinary Team Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant.

Our full-time medical services include mental health screenings, and a comprehensive medial examination to ensure a child is in good health and determine if the child has any historical or physical findings suggestive or diagnostic of abuse.  Referrals to our intake department for medical examinations are accepted from law enforcement, child protection services and area physicians after a report of abuse 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Our full-time forensic services are legally sound and are designed to avoid excessive trauma to the child.  The interviewer determines the best technique to be utilized given the age, social history, education, etc. Referrals to our intake department for forensic services are accepted from law enforcement and child protection services (with observation by law enforcement) 24 hours per day seven days per week.

Mental Health Services are provided to child victims, siblings and non-offending caregivers.  Therapists provide assessments, short-term counseling, advocacy, case management and referrals for on-going mental health treatment. Referrals to our intake department for mental health services are accepted from law enforcement, child protection services and area physicians 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

The CAC facilitates and participates in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings in our region.  Each team operates under a protocol approved by the Kentucky Multidisciplinary Team Commission and may include members from law enforcement, prosecution, child protections service,  school officials, medical and mental health personnel and victim advocates.
